My arethusa VPN disconnects automatically

Hi guys,

hope someone can help me.... i started using arethusa a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly. Just in the last days it is causing problems: after launching it... it keeps working for some hours, but when i check later my computer; i get the message in my screen that the VPN connection got lost....

does someone know what i can do in order to solve it?

Many thanks

PS: i'm using mac os x

Re: My arethusa VPN disconnects automatically

If you're connecting with openvpn, please copy-paste here your openvpn log just after losing the connection.

Re: My arethusa VPN disconnects automatically

This log shows that you were disconnected because of a network problem.
But OpenVPN tries to reconnect, right ?

Re: My arethusa VPN disconnects automatically

Yes, it tries to reconnect, i didn't show the reconnection log, basically, after a while, there is a TLS soft reset, not sure if anything can be done, and i'm actually unsure this isn't due to the fact my home network is under heavy usage toward the numbers of devices connected to internet, 500KB/s, might not be enough to handle the openvpn connection if not enough bandwidth remain. I think that on Windows 7, the connection lag made possible avoiding to get disconnected, obviously not the same on Windows 8/8.1
I'm not really surprised, the road is real long to get to your servers anyway wink

Re: My arethusa VPN disconnects automatically

Hi again,

in my case (mac os x user) it does not reconnect automatically, and i don't see any option to set up an automatic "re-connection".

Can you advise?

Thank you

Re: My arethusa VPN disconnects automatically

I have some feedback on this, i actually had a "mute 20" line in my config, after 20 mins of inactivity, automatically mute the connection.
I removed that line, now only the standard disconnections shows up,TLS soft error, but i rather blame my connection on that tongue

Automatic reconnection is by default with OpenVPN (unless a connection manager modifies that behavior), there is no need to add an option.

If you're connecting with PPTP or L2TP/IPsec, some OSes don't have automatic reconnection and you'll need to create a script or install an app.

Re: My arethusa VPN disconnects automatically

Sorry, I don't have a Mac, so I can't tell you more than a google search.

Switching to OpenVPN might be simpler, if Tunnelblick doesn't interfere with OpenVPN auto-reconnect.
